All Programs / I Pledge Allegiance

Every day school children pledge their allegiance to this piece of cloth, yet few citizens stop to consider what allegiance to a flag means, nor why they give it. Is it a convenient propaganda device to promote unthinking obedience to a government? Or is it a god-inspired symbol of brotherhood justice and prosperity? On this program we propose to explore the meaning and function of the American flag. We will consider what it means when we say “I pledge allegiance.”
